 Field Days 2008

We are celebrating the end of another great school year with the 2008 Highland Field Days! This fun day has something for everyone. Students will have fun earning place ribbons in individual as well as team events. Come join the fun on May 15 for 3rd-5th grade and May 16 for KDG-2nd grade. Please see our flier  for exact times.

Can you help on Field Day? We need parents or older siblings to help run stations. This is a great way to ensure Highland students have a great Field Day. If you are able to help please contact Robin Tusa rtusa@lps.k12.co.us or send in this form . Your efforts are sincerely appreciated.

Are you taking your child out to lunch on Field Day? Please fill out this form  and give it to your child’s teacher. Regular lunch will be served in the cafeteria. You will not need to check your child out in the office if you turn the form into your child’s teacher.

 Exploring the World

Engaging and inspirational is how we would describe Dean Jacobs’ visit to Highland on April 16-18. During his time with us Dean shared stories and amazing photos from his journey through Africa, Russia, Mongolia, and China during the school day and also at a community presentation in the evening. In addition to capturing our interest with his excellent ability as a speaker, he also engaged our students with the writing process. Dean visited each classroom in grades 1-5 to give writing workshops. Creative journal writing was the focus. Dean encouraged students to use their imagination to describe photographs from various places around the world while incorporating the five senses. The students were then able to take a signed copy of the photo home. What a motivating experience for our young writers! We all came away from the week with Dean inspired to write, to learn more about the world we live in, and to follow our dreams!
